Ida Rolf Method of Structural Integration

Structural Integration is a system of soft tissue manipulation which works on the connective tissue and is designed to restore the body to its healthiest and most efficient alignment. By creating length and manipulating the connective tissue (such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia – the structure that surrounds muscles), Structural Integration works to establish more alignment in the body and a more sustainable and efficient working unit.

Benefits of Structural Integration

Clients may begin to notice physical changes in height as the spine is lengthened. As the structure improves, clients might also experience greater self esteem and an overall improvement of energy level. Other physical benefits might include the reduction of chronic ailments (chronic muscle tension/pain).

Nearly all of us participate in activities which lead to movement patterns. These patterns can cause tension and shortening in parts of the body. The Structural Integrator can help unwind these patterns and create a body that is better able to perform these movements without strain.

Many people find that their balance, posture and flexibility get worse with time. Many of these changes are not an inevitable part of the aging process. Structural Integration can help you find better posture, flexibility and ease of movement at any age.

Creating balance in the structure can enhance athletic and everyday performance by improving body awareness, movement patterns and by creating a more efficient system. Day-to-day activities and athletic performance are easier when movement is more efficient. When less energy is required to make the same movement more energy is left over.

Structural Integration Therapy for Chronic Pain – As the structure changes the client interprets these changes subjectively. This subjective experience often manifests emotionally as life changes, improved self esteem, more energy or increased performance in physical activities.

People seek SI for a large number of reasons, some purely physical while others are looking for more balance both mentally and physically. People from all walks of life seek benefits from Structural Integration. It is ideal for anyone wishing to improve the way in which their body works and feels. As a practitioner the focus is always on the physical structure of the body, but I support and encourage growth and change in other areas too.
